AOD-9604
Metabolic
ABOUT
AOD-9604 is a modified human-growth-hormone fragment. FDA's 2024 review describes limited clinical-study summaries and reports that a 502-person obesity trial did not show a significant primary-endpoint difference from placebo.
EVIDENCE OVERVIEW
Too little published work to judge either way
WHAT THIS MEANS
Insufficient evidence. Review the research and limitations before relying on this record.
IDENTITY
HALF-LIFE
HOW IT IS THOUGHT TO WORK
AOD-9604 is a peptide corresponding to the C-terminal fragment of human growth hormone, residues 177-191, designed to reproduce the lipolytic action of growth hormone without its diabetogenic effects. It does not act directly through the growth hormone receptor, and although both hGH and AOD-9604 increase beta-3 adrenergic receptor expression, the lipolytic action is not mediated directly through that receptor either. The mechanism is therefore not fully resolved.
PHARMACOKINETICS
A half-life of about 3 minutes has been reported in pigs; no human value is established. A metabolite (CRSVEGSCG) showed greater serum stability than the parent compound.
REVIEW
PUBLISHED PAIR RECORDS
with CJC-1295 (without DAC)
Growth-hormone fragment that does not act through the growth-hormone receptorAOD-9604 is the C-terminal fragment of human growth hormone (residues 177-191), and it is commonly scheduled alongside growth-hormone secretagogues on the assumption that it adds to the same axis. It does not: the fragment was designed to reproduce the lipolytic action of growth hormone without its diabetogenic effects, and published work shows its lipolytic action is not mediated directly through the growth hormone receptor. CJC-1295 (without DAC) raises endogenous growth hormone and downstream IGF-1; AOD-9604 does not add to that signal. The more relevant fact is efficacy: FDA's review describes a 502-person obesity trial in which AOD-9604 showed no significant difference from placebo on its primary endpoint, and development did not proceed to approval. AOD-9604 is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency. Peppy reports curated pharmacology, not a safety verdict. A prescriber or pharmacist should review any intended combination.

AOD-9604 was tested at scale and did not work. FDA's review describes a 502-person obesity trial that showed no significant difference from placebo on its primary endpoint. Development did not proceed to approval in any jurisdiction. The route also matters: the oral formulation later pursued as a food ingredient is not the injectable use it is marketed for.
REPORTED EFFECTS
Beyond the failed obesity programme, no controlled human adverse-effect dataset is curated. AOD-9604 is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency. FDA removed it from the Category 2 interim compounding list in September 2024 after the nomination was withdrawn - a procedural change rather than a safety finding. No regulator has approved this substance for the use described here, so there is no label-verified dose, purity standard, or safety monitoring requirement behind it.
RESEARCH LIMITATIONS
FDA notes incomplete study reporting, no FDA-approved AOD-9604 products, and insufficient evidence for obesity treatment. This does not support use for any other goal, route, formulation, protocol, or dose.
