Epitalon
Hormonal and Signaling
ABOUT
Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide. Recent published work located for this review is cell-line research examining telomere-related measures, rather than human clinical treatment evidence.

HOW IT IS THOUGHT TO WORK
Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) derived from the pineal extract epithalamin. Proposed mechanisms include influence on melatonin synthesis, antioxidant and neuroprotective effects, antimutagenic activity, modulation of interleukin-2 mRNA, and enhancement of enzyme activity including telomerase. A 2025 study reported increased telomere length in human cell lines through telomerase upregulation or alternative lengthening of telomeres. A 2025 review notes it remains uncertain whether these are the operative mechanisms, and that physico-chemical and structural investigation of the peptide is limited.
PHARMACOKINETICS
No pharmacokinetic data exists in any species. Absorption, distribution, half-life and elimination are unknown, which is why no dosing schedule has an empirical basis.
REVIEW
PUBLISHED PAIR RECORDS
with Pinealon
Same research programme, same unreplicated evidence baseEpitalon and Pinealon come from the same Saint Petersburg bioregulator programme and are routinely sold and scheduled as a set. That shared origin is also the shared limitation: the supporting literature for both is overwhelmingly Russian-language, older, and produced by institutions connected to the original developers, so the corrective function of independent replication has not been applied to either. Neither has pharmacokinetic data in any species, which means no dosing schedule for either has an empirical basis and no exposure-based reasoning about combining them is possible. Combining two agents from one unreplicated programme does not add independent evidence - it repeats the same evidential weakness twice. Peppy reports curated pharmacology, not a safety verdict. A prescriber or pharmacist should review any intended combination.

Reviewed 21 Aug 2026HUMAN EVIDENCE
The telomere findings are in cultured human cell lines, not in people - a cell line is not a person, and telomere lengthening in culture has never been shown to translate into a health outcome. The clinical claims that circulate - geroprotector activity, benefit in pigmentary retinal degeneration - come from the Saint Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, without published sample sizes, designs or outcome data in the indexed sources and without independent replication outside that group.
REPORTED EFFECTS
One mouse study reported no toxic effect from long-term low-dose exposure. There is no human safety dataset. Epitalon was added to FDA's Category 2 interim compounding list in September 2023 as a substance that may present significant safety risks. No regulator has approved this substance for the use described here, so there is no label-verified dose, purity standard, or safety monitoring requirement behind it.
RESEARCH LIMITATIONS
Cell-line findings cannot establish human benefit or safety, including for ageing-related outcomes. No clinical protocol, dose, or long-term safety conclusion is provided.
